Carer Support
Support for Family, Friends, Loved Ones and Carers.
If you are a carer, you are welcome and encouraged to access our Services whether the person you care for does or not. We are here for you as well as for them.
How can we help you?
Carers exist in many varieties, any person of any age who provides unpaid care and support, be it practical or emotional, to a family member, friend, colleague, or neighbour are considered a carer. Caring for a family member or someone close to you with an illness can be rewarding but extremely tiring. It can also be emotionally and physically demanding. When you are caring for the needs of others and coping day to day, it can sometimes be easy to neglect your own health needs. We do, however, also provide a safe and caring day environment at the Centre for the person who is unwell, which will allow you some precious time to yourself. If they do not use our services already, maybe encourage them to enquire more about how we can help.
What We Offer
Majority of our services are available and designed to also support you as a carer or loved one of some with cancer or indeed any person who might be indirectly affected by a cancer diagnosis of someone close to them. We offer a selection of one to one holistic therapy treatments and group relaxation classes as well as counselling and creative therapies.
You could also attend one of our carers support group sessions, which take place regularly throughout the month. These sessions are an opportunity for you to meet other people who are also caring for someone and spend some time in a warm, friendly, and relaxed environment.
Our Wellbeing for Carers group is a 6-week programme where we explore a range of different tools to help you manage any stress, feelings of overwhelm or worry you might be experiencing. We use different techniques such as calming breathing exercises together with easy guided meditations and gentle seated exercises or creative therapies to help release stress and anxiety, and improve your wellbeing, health, and confidence.
If you are unable to commit to six weeks you are welcome to join us at any time during this course.
What Happens Next
You can make an appointment with one of our nursing staff who will spend time with you getting to understand your personal needs and they will recommend the carer support services or holistic therapies which might help you most. They will also keep in regular contact with you to check in and see how you are doing. They will review how you are progressing with your chosen course of holistic therapy or treatment and consider any additional or different support therapy that may or may not be beneficial to helping you.
