Tuesday 4th February marked World Cancer Day, a very important day, not just for us at Cancer Relief but for all the local cancer charities in Gibraltar and across the world.

This year, the theme was โ€œunited by unique.โ€ We marked the day with an awareness event in the Piazza which brought together all the local charities under one umbrella.

Kate Howarth, our Clinical Nurse Specialist was on hand to engage with the public, answering any questions people had and providing valuable information about the support and services available.

We, along with our fellow cancer charities, understand that cancer is far more than a diagnosis, itโ€™s a deeply personal matter. Everybodyโ€™s journey is unique to them. This was a day to highlight the collaborative efforts of Gibraltarโ€™s local charities in providing unique, personalised care and support for everyone affected by cancer.

We also invited people to take part in the Upside-Down campaign, a worldwide initiative specifically linked to Word Cancer Day. We encouraged people to share their personal experiences and stories of how cancer has turned their world upside down. Stories not only inspire, but they also bring people together. Patients, families and carers, friends, anyone affected by a cancer diagnosis had the opportunity to share their experiences by writing a card and pinning it to our display board.

GBC were at the Piazza for World Cancer Day and Jonathan Scott hosted the Gibraltar Today programme live from event. All the charities were interviewed, and Kate discussed our holistic approach to caring for cancer patients and their families.

It was a fantastic day of collaboration and so good to see everyone coming together to mark the day.
