Cancer Relief simply could not do what we do without the incredible dedication of our volunteers. From supporting us at fundraising events and helping with the housekeeping of our wonderful building, to offering practical support and companionship during our day support programme, our volunteers play a vital role in every area of our work. Their time, compassion and commitment allows us to continue providing care and support to individuals and families when they need it most.
During Volunteer Week, we were delighted to welcome students from Prior Park School, who visited and gave a presentation to our volunteers and service users. It was a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the importance of volunteering and the lasting impact volunteers have, both on the work we do and on the lives of those we support. It reminded us all that volunteering is far more than giving time. It is about showing compassion, creating connections, supporting others through difficult moments, and making a genuine difference within the community.

The students captured something that we feel deeply here at Cancer Relief โ that the impact of volunteering is felt not only by the charity, but by every person we support. Many of the people we work with value the kindness, reassurance, and human connection our volunteers bring just as much as any practical help.

For those living with cancer, that presence means everything. Volunteers offer comfort, understanding and hope during some of life’s most difficult moments. They can brighten someone’s day, ease feelings of isolation, and remind people that they are not facing their journey alone.
This Volunteer Week, we want to recognise and thank every single one of our volunteers for their continued generosity, compassion and commitment. Your contribution makes our work possible – and we are deeply grateful for everything you do.
