Each year, Gibraltar experiences a certain magic when people unite for a shared cause. This year’s Med Steps 5 Challenge was the perfect reflection of that spirit, as individuals from all facets of the Gibraltar community tackled the iconic Mediterranean Steps. From one to five (or even more!) loops, every step formed part of an incredible day on the Rock.
All of us at Cancer Relief want to thank the many individuals and teams who make this event a success year after year. The Med Steps 5 Challenge would not exist without the incredible dedication of Mark Cooper and the HM Government of Gibraltar Prison Officers, who volunteer immense amounts of time, energy, and coordination to organise this unique endurance challenge. We are profoundly grateful for their unwavering commitment and partnership, which provide such incredible outreach, fundraising, and support every year.
We also want to thank the many volunteers who cheered every participant up the Rock and provided care and smiles during each loop. The day would not have been a success without you. Additionally, to every participant who committed to the 2026 challenge, thank you. The determination and energy were palpable throughout the day. From families walking together, to co-workers cheering each other on, and individuals pushing themselves to their limits, participants of all ages and backgrounds truly represented what can be achieved when we climb and conquer together.
With the final fundraising donations still coming in, the Med Steps 5 Challenge can also be measured by the collective impact it has made. Not only will the significant funds raised go directly towards the ongoing care Cancer Relief provides to our community, but every single step taken also served as a reminder of what we can achieve when we support one another and move forward together.
