At the beginning of December, we opened our second ‘Book Nook’ at St. Bernard’s Hospital Discharge Lounge. Our original book nook opened at Morrisons and has provided a successful charity book exchange, giving book worms, members of the community and families access to a wonderful library of pre-loved books in exchange for an optional donation to Cancer Relief.
Following the opening of the GHA book nook and the associated press release, we have received lots of calls and enquiries from members of the public. The generosity has been overwhelming as many people have already donated books to keep up the supply of fresh reading material in both locations. This is benefitting GHA patients and their families who can now enjoy a fantastic range of fiction and non-fiction in exchange for a small optional sum, either donated in cash or online using our QR code on the bookshelf.
The opening of the book nook coincided with a festive reading for the children in the Rainbow Ward conducted by Nyree Robinson, our newly appointed Drama therapist.
The GHA book nook is a fantastic initiative that has been wonderfully received by both GHA staff and hospital patients and their families.
There’s nothing quite like reading a good book so if you or anyone you know has any pre-loved and gems collecting dust on your shelves, donate them to the book nook and share your reads with the community. You can either deliver to us at the Cancer Relief Centre or you can contact us on 200 42392 or email fundraising@cancerrelief.gi to organise a collection.
