Carers Week has come to an end, but at Cancer Relief, we know caring doesn’t follow a calendar. It happens every day, often quietly, in homes and hospitals across our community.
This year, we wanted to recognise just how many different people step into a caring role. That’s why we introduced the acronym CARERS:
- C for Colleague
- A for relAtive
- R for paRtner
- E for nEighbour
- R for fRiend
- S for Special someone
Because carers aren’t one kind of person. They’re the people who quietly become our foundation when life gets hard, offering a lift to an appointment, a listening ear at midnight, a hand to hold in a waiting room.
Celebrating Carers Across Our Community
Throughout the week, we took that message into the community to make sure carers felt seen.
Together with the GHA, we placed our Cards for Carers in the CDU and Chemotherapy Suite, creating small moments of reflection and gratitude in places where caring happens every day.
At our weekly day support, service users received thank-you cards and small plants to pass on to the carers who make a difference in their lives.
We also shared awareness cards in local pharmacies, a gentle reminder that Cancer Relief’s support is here not only for those living with cancer, but also for the people who care for them.
Across our social media channels, a short video series celebrated the many faces of caring and the impact carers have on the people they love.
A Message to Every Carer
Caring is so often a silent role. Carers weave themselves into someone else’s life so seamlessly that their own needs can go unnoticed, even by themselves.
๐ If that sounds like you, please know this: you are not alone, and Cancer Relief is here for you too.
Whether you need guidance, practical support, or simply someone to listen, our door is open.
Thank You
As Carers Week draws to a close, we want to say it one more time to every colleague, relative, partner, neighbour, friend, and special someone caring for a loved one affected by cancer:
Thank You
Your dedication, compassion, and resilience deserve recognition not just this week, but every single day of the year.
