On August 17th, the waters of Ocean Village were brimming with excitement and creativity as teams from across the community competed in the annual Cardboard Boat Race, held in aid of Cancer Relief and the GBC Open Day Trust. This distinctive event, known for its lively atmosphere and inventive spirit, featured participants racing boats crafted solely from cardboard and duct tape.
Our team eagerly took part in this year’s challenge, and though our boat capsized at the very start, we were determined to make a comeback.
With renewed determination, we re-entered the boat and managed to make an impressive comeback, securing third place, which we are very proud of! Despite the initial setback, the day was filled with fun, camaraderie, and a sense of achievement as we navigated our way to the podium.
A huge thanks goes to the RAOB for organising and choosing our charity as one of the beneficiaries, the HM Prison Officers for building our impressive Sir Quack-A-Lot cardboard boat, and Ocean Village for their generous support in making the event a success. These contributions were crucial in ensuring the event was both enjoyable and memorable.
The Cardboard Boat Race was a true celebration of community spirit, with each team bringing creativity and enthusiasm to the competition. The funds raised will significantly benefit Cancer Relief and the GBC Open Day Trust, supporting essential work and ongoing initiatives.
Overall, the event was a day of laughter, friendly competition, ano valuable fundraising for important causes. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported and participated in this memorable event.
Here’s to more splashes and successes in the future!
